This Salsa Relies on the Magic of Your Blender and Pantry

Have you ever bought salsa and thought how rediculously expensive it is? A can of whole tomatoes is way cheaper. Add a few seasonings, and use the power of your blender to whir up this easy dip. Plus, when you add your own hot sauce, you can control the spice!

Chadwick’s Checklist

What you need to know before you cook.

  • Use a blender or food processor.
  • If you have time, allow salsa to rest in the fridge for a few hours so the flavors meld nicely.

SERVING SIZE: 8 PREP TIME: 10 mins TOTAL TIME: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 28-ounce can whole peeled tomatoes with juice

  • 5-6 whole, peeled garlic cloves

  • ¾ cup roughly chopped fresh cilantro

  • ½ cup roughly chopped red onion

  • ½ teaspoon hot sauce (add more if needed to get to "spicy" level)

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped

  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Directions

  1. Place the tomatoes, garlic, cilantro and onion in a blender or food processor and blend until fully incorporated, about 1 minute.

  2. Add the hot sauce, olive oil, vinegar, jalapeño, and salt; blend again.

  3. Place in a small bowl, cover with plastic wrap and chill until ready to serve.

Chadwick’s Changeups

Switch things up. Have some fun! Do more.

  • Try this with fresh Roma tomatoes during tomato season.
  • If you can find them, use a can of fire-roasted tomatoes. They add a hint of smokiness.
