I created a simple, beautiful recipe for Cosmic Crisp®, that is also an amazing gifting idea, using only 5 ingredients! Sparkling Salt tastes amazing with Cosmic Crisp® apple crisps, adds an elegant, edible touch to your Charcuterie board, and is a delicious rim on your favorite sweet or spicy holiday cocktail (stay tuned for my "Crispmas Punch" recipe, coming soon!).
Chadwick’s Checklist
What you need to know before you cook.
- Buy the spruce tips and juniper berries in advance online (1-2 weeks before making).
- Make sure the sparkling sugar is the larger crystal kind and not sanding sugar.
- Make the Cosmic Crisp apple chips ahead; they take up to 4 hours to dry in the oven.
- 3-4 ounce jars with air-tight lids work best for little gifts.
Makes 1 5-ounce jar
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon smoked applewood salt
- 1 tablespoon flake salt
- 5 tablespoons sparkling sugar
- 2 teaspoons fresh juniper berries with small fronds
- 2 teaspoons fresh spruce tips – sub fresh rosemary if not available
Directions
- In a small bowl, mix together the salts, sugar and juniper berries with small pieces of the fronds.
- Place the spruce tips or fresh rosemary on two layers of paper towel. Place on a plate and microwave on high for 1½ minutes to dehydrate. Transfer to a cutting board and roughly chop. Add to the mixture and stir to fully combine.
- Place in an air tight glass jar with lid.
Chadwick’s Changeups
Switch things up. Have some fun! Do more.
- Use rosemary instead of spruce tips.
- Pink peppercorns add a festive, slightly spicy touch.
- To stretch for more gifts, stir in a cup or two of granulated sugar.
